FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

9th – 12th graders (for the 2024/2025 school year) who attend Highland High School or Judge Memorial Catholic High School and High School students who live within the Highland High School geographic boundary if their high school does not have a Mountain Bike Team. The SLC Composite Junior Devo Team is for 7th and 8th graders (for the 2024/2025 school year) who plan to attend Highland or Judge for high school. We recognize that some middle school students do not know which High School they will attend so all SLC 7th/8th graders are welcome. SLC Composite Devo + Highland + Judge are managed and coached together.

We practice on trails in various locations around Salt Lake City and Park City.  Carpooling is encourage.  If you need help getting your child to practice, please contact us.

Practices are announced on our team scheduling app called TeamSnap.  During practice, we place our riders into skill-based riding groups with designated ride leaders. By combining the various schools together, we have enough riders so that everyone has peers with similar skills to ride with and build camaraderie.

During Pre-season (April-May) we train two days per week, weather permitting. Usually Monday and Wednesday evenings.

During the Regular Season (June-October) we train 2-3 days per week, weather permitting. Usually Monday and Wednesday evenings with occasional Saturday morning High School practices.

We ride from 1-3 hours and separate into groups depending on fitness, technical experience, and age.

Sign up is in March & April each year. Fill out the New Rider Interest Form.  Please visit our Fees & Registration Page.

NICA (the National Interscholastic Cycling Association) is a U.S.-wide cycling association that promotes mountain biking (MTB) in high schools across the U.S. NICA creates licensing, training and racing materials that support and help grow mountain biking. They help establish ‘MTB Leagues’ in each State – in Utah we will ride in the Utah High School Mountain Biking League. Utah’s MTB League is the largest in the U.S. with over 10,000 riders! It’s super exciting to be a part of this! Every rider will register directly with NICA to ride and race in the Utah League.

Our teams are volunteer-led and run. Therefore, we require all parents, with few exceptions, to volunteer towards the success of our teams. Parent Volunteer page to learn more.
