Mountain biking is a sport everyone can participate in, no experience necessary!
SLC Composite and Highland MTB Teams are lead by volunteer coaches and ride leaders. They are passionate about mountain biking and the outdoors.
Coaches & Staff
Head Coach for Judge Memorial Catholic High: Michael Coudreaut
Head Coach for Highland High: Chris Adams
SLC Comp Jr. Devo Coach (7th-8th graders): Jim Jackson
Team Director: Jeanne Riley-Shope
Website Manager: Heather Hendriksen
Our coaches are heavily assisted by parents willing to ride with the team. If you are interested in helping out as a ride leader, please let us know. The league has licensing requirements that help you learn how to be an effective leader.
No matter how fast you ride, you will always have someone with you on the trail.
Cycling is a sport that can last a lifetime (look at the coaches!)
Learning trail etiquette is as important as learning how to ride.
Whether at a race or practice, we always do our best.
You will receive coaching at every practice and they be there for you at every race.
We will strive to create a fun environment where riders are able to challenge themselves, have fun, and learn to be better rider.
Necessary Equipment
Your rider will need the following. If you do not have these items, discounts are available at Guthrie Cycles as well as through NICA. Contact us if you have any questions.
Mountain biking is an excellent way for riders to challenge themselves and every rider grows as an athlete and individual in this process.
Please contact us if you would like to become a GRiT mentor on our team. Watch the video below:
How you can support your racer
Our teams are volunteer-led and run. Therefore, we require all parents, with few exceptions, to volunteer towards the success of our teams. This may involve riding with the team as a parent volunteer or ride leader, volunteering for NICA during races, assisting with team organization, or maintaining food and equipment in the Pit zone during races.
Trail Work
We recognize that our practices and races make a huge impact on the Utah trail systems – we want this to be a positive impact. Every year, each of our student-athletes will be expected to complete a minimum of 3 hours of volunteer work to improve our trails. Team-organized volunteer days will be scheduled throughout the season.
